Eletrobras formed a collaboration with C3 AI to utilize AI in managing the electric power transmission network, with an emphasis on real-time monitoring and problem-solving, according to information provided to Reuters by the companies involved.
The C3 AI Grid Intelligence tool was introduced in 10 energy substations of Eletrobras last year and will now be extended to all the company’s transmission assets. Eletrobras is Brazil’s largest operator in the segment, managing 74,000 kilometers of lines, equivalent to 37% of the National Interconnected System (SIN).
The agreement’s value was not revealed.
Eletrobras is investing in artificial intelligence as electrical network investments become more important globally for improved operation and security against extreme weather events.
In Brazil, one of the primary obstacles encountered by power line operators is fires occurring close to transmission lines and substations. The National Operator of the Electric System (ONS) reported a peak of 931 instances of transmission line shutdowns due to fires last year.
Eletrobras Goals
The companies mentioned in a statement that artificial intelligence enhances the strength and dependability of the extensive electrical grid by aiding in quicker rectification of issues.
The C3 AI solution quickly detects alarms and incident groupings, identifies affected equipment and substations, and offers decision-making assistance within ten seconds, a task that used to take from minutes to hours, according to Eletrobras.
“We are updating important network monitoring procedures to promptly and efficiently address incidents, ensuring system stability and availability,” stated Pablo Flores, Executive Manager of Eletrobras’s Protection, Automation, and Control of Operation Systems.
The electric company began utilizing a C3 AI tool to enhance the efficiency of operational report production, enabling operators to focus on more valuable tasks.
Thomas M. Siebel, Chairman of the Board and CEO of C3 AI, emphasized that the collaboration with Eletrobras highlights the AI company’s position as a provider of solutions for essential infrastructure.
C3 AI’s priority is the growth and durability of energy systems worldwide, according to the executive.
