OpenAI introduced a cost-effective subscription option in India to broaden its artificial intelligence services in one of the globe’s biggest internet service markets.
The ChatGPT Go subscription is priced at 399 rupees per month and offers increased image management and more frequent interactions with the chatbot compared to the free version, which will still be accessible.
There are increased download limits, expanded memory for personalized responses, and enhanced analyses among other enhancements.
The Go plan, currently exclusive to India, will utilize OpenAI’s newest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5, to enhance coding skills, creative writing, and problem-solving abilities with intricate questions.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described this as a significant advancement compared to earlier versions of the company’s model.
OpenAI sparked worldwide interest with the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, and Altman aims to build on this success to grow global business.
OpenAI collaborated with SoftBank this year to offer AI services to Japanese firms and is establishing a presence in Seoul to expand its user base in South Korea, which has the highest number of paying ChatGPT subscribers after the US.
In India, there are additional subscription options such as ChatGPT Plus, offering improved performance, and a pricier professional version tailored for businesses. ChatGPT Plus is priced at $20 per month in the US, which is approximately R$ 110.
American tech giants like Alphabet and Meta Platforms, along with China’s DeepSeek, currently lead the Indian AI model market. India is promoting the development of both large and small language models through the IndiaAI initiative, which has a budget of $1.2 billion.
Last month, Bharti Airtel, an Indian telecom company, collaborated with Perplexity to provide free one-year subscriptions to all 360 million local clients.
